Book Culture on Columbus Celebrates Diversity in YA!

Inspired by We Need Diverse Books, a campaign that promotes children's literature "that reflects and honor the lives of all young people," we here at Book Culture on Columbus decided to take a look at the books we had on our shelves. Like many publishers, libraries, and bookstores across the nation, we realized immediately that Book Culture could provide our teen readers with a larger spectrum of voices.

Book Culture on Columbus Summer Reading Lists!

Summer has arrived in New York City, and there's no better way to spend it than lazing in the sun with a good book. It's time to head to the park and soak up some literature along with those rays. To help you start off your summer reading right, our staff and managers at Book Culture on Columbus have offered up their personal summer reading lists. We hope this provides you with some inspiration, and that your summer is filled with playful, contemplative, and ever surprising literary adventures.

Devon Recommends Cookbooks for a Cold Winter's Day

I love to cook. When the winter wind howls and the apartment is freezing no matter what I do, there's no better time to fire up the oven, roll up my sleeves, and get cooking. Not only am I a little warmer, but suddenly the house is full of heavenly scents and at the end of it all I get a great meal!   Winter also gives me time to try out new recipes and discover new favorites.  For those looking to start their own culinary adventure this winter, here are some of my current cookbook obsessions.

Get Lost in Literature in Translation

lit in translation

In the throes of Ferrante fever? Enjoyed The Door as much as The New York Times? Then you just might be addicted to literature in translation! Surprisingly, only 3% of all novels published in the U.S. are in translation. But we are here to bridge the gap. Our new subscription program, Literature in Translation, features work from stellar authors and translators. Throughout the year indie bookseller Cari Kilbride will comb through a mix of translated classics and newly published books to choose a stand out novel to send every month.

Go Around the World with Book Culture

Travel across the globe and gets insights into other cultures -- all from the comfort of your couch (or other favorite reading spot). Starting this month, you can sign up for our Around the World book subscription. Each month will feature a book from a different continent. These books, all chosen by indie bookseller Devon Dunn, capture the essence and locales of countries from around the world. This subscription is perfect for fans of Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, Jorge Luis Borges, or Arundhati Roy. Learn a little more about this subscription, and the bookseller behind it, by checking out our Q&A with Devon here
