Women in Translation Month is coming to a close, but we have time for one more Q&A, with Kaiama Glover, whose translation of Marie Vieux-Chauvet's Dance on the Volcano was released earlier this year. She was kind enough to take the time to answer some questions for us about translation and her work.

August in Women in Translation Month--a whole month dedicated to celebrating literature by women in translation! We started the month by talking about some of our favorite books by women in translation; on Friday we hosted a fantastic event with translators Susan Bernofsky, John Keene, Ann Goldstein, and Nathan Xavier Osorio. Next up we have Lina Meruane, an author we love, whose book Seeing Red was translated by Megan McDowell.
Every month, Book Culture on Columbus features a bookseller's favorite books. This month, they show off Lucas's staff picks, which range from dark short stories to essays on film to the diaries of one of literature's most beloved erotica writers. Read Lucas's thoughts on them below and stop by the store to pick up some of these excellent books!
It's no secret that we love reading books in translation here at Book Culture. Anyone who spends time browsing the shelf talkers at the store will see that our favorite writers come from all over the world and write in many different languages. Though books in translation make up only 3% of all books published in any given year, they are some of the most exciting and memorable books out there, and we are grateful for the translators and publishers whose work allows us to read these amazing books.
If you're in need of a new book, look no further. Check out the books we chose to send as part of our subscription program for the month of August!

Also, be sure to stop by the store to see the display for yourself!
