[COVID-19 Update: 08/14/2020]

We are open for in store purchases, online order pick up, and limited browsing. Shopping at 112th street is restricted to the first floor only; customers are not permitted upstairs or into coursebook shelving areas. Please speak with a bookstore associate for assistance or pre-order your books on our website for grab-and-go service!

When inside the stores, we ask all patrons to:
  • wear a face-covering (over mouth AND nose, please!)
  • maintain a 6-foot distance between themselves and others
  • limit browsing time to fifteen minutes to allow others time to shop
In order to make social distancing possible, we are limiting the number of customers inside each store at a time. You may be asked to wait outside until another customer has left. Thank you for your kindness and patience!

Dear Students,

Book Culture proudly handles the coursebooks for professors at Columbia, Barnard, Manhattan School of Music, New School, Teachers College, Union Theological Seminary, and Jewish Theological Seminary (among others). In order to receive the quickest, most efficient service, we recommend that you come to our 112th location. You do have the option to pre-pay for coursebooks for 'In-Store Pickup', or have them mailed to you. Online orders can take up to two days to process, due to the high volume we receive this time of year. Online orders placed with the 'Pay at the Store' option for 'In-Store Pickup' will be canceled. We do not reserve coursebooks that have not been paid for, but we can sign you up for notifications for books that are out of stock we are waiting to receive.

Please note that there is a 24 hour delay with the inventory listed online. Your books may in fact be in the store, or we may have sold out since it was last updated. For real-time inventory questions, please call us at (212) 865-1588.

Do you carry my class textbooks? Even if I don’t go to Columbia?

Maybe! Book Culture carries textbooks for many schools, including (but not limited to) Columbia, Barnard, Manhattan School of Music, New School, Teachers College, Union Theological Seminary, and Jewish Theological Seminary.

My professor didn’t order books with you. Is there a possibility you carry them anyway?

Yes. Check out our website to see what we have in stock right now. If a book isn’t in the store currently, we can usually order it for you. Many titles are available within a day or two.

My professor ordered books with you, but the website says one of them is out of stock! What does this mean?

Don’t worry! More are on the way. Give us a call at (212) 865-1588 and we’ll be happy to notify you when additional copies arrive.

Can you place coursebooks on hold for me?

Because coursebooks are high-demand items, we hold them only if we receive pre-payment. Give us a call and we’ll take your credit card information over the phone.

Do you have a student discount?

Yes, we have a student membership that includes a discount on all of our products, not just coursebooks. Please see our Student Membership page for more information about how to sign up.

Do you buy books back?

Yes, we buy coursebooks and non-coursebooks. Please see our Sell Us Your Books page for more information, including our buyback hours.
