112th: Adrianne Kalfopoulou & Rachel Hadas
Join us Monday, October 20th, at 7pm for Greece: Journeys and Returns, a special joint reading with Adrianne Kalfopoulou and Rachel Hadas. Adrianne will be reading from her latest book, Ruin: Essays in Exilic Living, and Rachel will reading from her last book of poems, The Golden Road.
Adrianne Kalfopoulou has taught creative writing and literature in the Creative Writing Program at New York University and at the University of Freiburg. She is currently Associate Professor of Language and Literature at Hellenic American University in Athens, Greece. She is the author of two poetry collections, and her poems and essays have been published widely. Her latest book, Ruin: Essays in Exilic Living, is an incisive and courageous collection charting the wreckage of post-modernity’s never-ending states of crisis, from austerity-ravaged Athens to post-9/11 New York. One of its essays was named "Notable Essay of the Year" in 2013 by Best American Essays.
Rachel Hadas is Board of Governors Professor of English at Rutgers University-Newark and the author of over a dozen volumes of poetry, essays, and translations. Her most recent book of poems is The Golden Road (2012). A new book of poems, Questions in the Vestibule, is in preparation; a selected prose book, Talking to the Dead, is forthcoming
in 2015 from Spuyten Duyvil Press.
