For lovers of Call Me By Your Name. This book is pretty steamy in all the best ways, and the style is strikingly similar to Aciman's with a suffocating close narrative with the main character, full of romantic mind games.

I've never really picked up a cookbook and found myself reading everything inside (and we all know that's probably the most annoying part of online recipe searching) but the authenticity and honesty Vivian Howard puts into everything she does makes it completely readable and even a page turner. If you aren't familiar with her PBS show A Chef's Life, I urge you to watch it for the same reason. Much like her first cookbook, Deep Run Roots, this one features insanely delicious looking (and tasting, the couple that I've made already) recipes staying true family traditions and the uniqueness of Eastern North Carolina cuisine.

I am completely stunned and breathless after reading this book. The way in which Léon is able to craft the past into this novel is probably the most stunning storytelling I’ve come across. Uncover the dark past that Hermin and Lenny shared together before Lenny, now a famous pianist, leaves Hermin, his tutor and leaves, with essentially no notice, but reappears in Hermin’s isolated cabin deep in the blustery mountains. Coming from a millennial author, Wanderer is worthy of attention, and I hope it's spread widely. Be sure to grab a blanket for this one, because it’s cold.

Louis returns to his dreary home in France to visit his dying father, who is barely fifty, and well... it's truly haunting. A highly critical essay and a poignant interweaving of a heartbreaking story of father and son, sociology, and intense political criticism which goes far in such a short essay, managing to tackle poverty, homophobia, class wars, and more. Heartbreaking and extremely touching at the same time, Louis has hit a new high with this, and it should be read widely.

Could you ask for a better author duo to write a book? But, in a lot of ways, these two authors write very different stories; Becky tends to favor the happier and more smushy endings, while Adam likes to single handedly rip your heart out (and stomp on it too). So what can you expect in this multiple viewpoint novel? I simply won't say, but I know you'll think about this book forever.

The most interesting part of reading this memoir of a brutal rape is the way that the book reaches into your understanding. We don’t just follow the rapist and the victim, we shine light on the rapist’s family, Louis’s childhood neighbors, and his family. Under that light is the stories of violence that they have all suffered through. This book is not a novel, and I think it’s far more complex than a memoir. It’s a magnificent essay on, well, you guessed it: [A] HISTORY OF VIOLENCE

A devastatingly beautiful read. I think hearing the author speak about the book before reading it helped me really grasp what he was doing here. Most of this novel is so surreal it feels like a dream within a dream. Simply put, I love deep, dark, queer novels and this is EXACTLY that. I love books that delve into a mother-and-gay-son theme. While the ending left me a little empty at first, I quickly realized that Nathan spoke about playing with a David Lynch inspired world full of insane clichés but with a crazy twist, and that’s exactly what he did. In fact, it felt incredibly like watching Mulholland Drive.

If you’re not familiar with Chee’s work, you won’t know just how fantastic he is and I hope this changes that. This new book of essays might be the best things he’s done yet (although Edinburgh is a real masterpiece, too). How to Write an Autobiographical Novel is likely one of the most important collection of essays in print; it’s full of raw honesty, activism, and struggle of identity. What is it like to grow up as a son to a Korean family in America, to be a gay son, to be a celebrated writer at a very young age, to live through the first battles of AIDS awareness, or live in New York before, during, and after 9/11? These essays are vast in subject and will simply blow you away.

With the addicting writing style that so deeply and almost exclusively represents Elio’s thoughts, the Italian Riviera setting that really warms you to the core, and the most powerful and gut-punching romance I have ever encountered in literature, Andre Aciman created  the perfect summer read. This book was just so unbelievably pleasant in every way and it turns into one of those books that you keep thinking about even when you've put it down to shower or eat and you have to pick it right back up when you're finished! Our main character is Quinn, gay, about to turn seventeen and has all the characteristics of a seventeen year old; however, there is a terrible tragedy in his family that takes place just before the novel starts that makes Quinn not your average seventeen year-old boy. All together, this is a pleasant little YA novel that is about our friend Quinn finding himself again, learning that not all of our heroes turn out to be heroes, and not everything is always as bad as it seems.

This first book of two kept me so intensely hooked that I almost refused to ever put it down. There is so much action and strong and beautiful characters that I was just dying to find out what happened next.

A group of teenage gangsters breaking into an impenetrable prison for a giant fortune? Say no more.

I am so glad that I had this book forced upon me for class. What an incredible story (loosely based on The Jungle Book) of belonging, coming of age, and journeying on your own.

The Graveyard Book is a perfect step into fantasy for those who don't tend to dip into the genre and are feeling a little wild. It's also a really great story that you will can hold with you forever no matter how old you get. I hold this kind of book on the same level as The Little Prince for its importance in children and adults.

It's just such a great middle-grade-but-bordering-on-YA book that should be spread widely!

I just love it when an author throws me for a loop. I was so disappointed in this novel while reading it until ~that part~ happened and all of your skepticism is validated and allowed. After reading History is All You Left Me and jumping back in Silvera's timeline, I now see serious growth as an artist. A long review on this book is dangerous because it could give away a serious spoiler to the entire thing so I'll keep it brief.

This is the perfect novel for anyone, not just LGBT people, but for anyone on a journey to find happiness. A reminder to everyone how important our memories are and how the past shapes our present and future.

A bit of a slow start but the idea itself will keep you invested. A world with no more death-- only a select few have the power to decide when it's someone's turn to be 'gleaned'. A whole separate world with it's own separated government is surely destined to become toxic. So toxic that they set two Scythe Apprentices against each other-- one will win the Scythe ring, the other will be 'gleaned' by the victor. A wonderful novel that occasionally hits a little too close to home in our current political standing.

Beautiful. Mesmerizing. Raw. Hypnotizing. Engrossing. Amazing.

I could probably keep going but it's starting to get annoying-- ANYWAY-- wow what poetry. I, by no means, am a poetry fanatic or otherwise knowledgeable in the field. BUT. I know what is beautiful and what is good (and they don't always mean the same thing). This is both. This is honestly perfect.

I want to begin this review by stating that I am utterly terrified of this world. A pandemic is absolutely my biggest fear and being alive in a world like this haunts me everyday-- not joking. You know that computer game "Pandemic". It gave me such anxiety after playing it.... anyway. This book is absolutely beautiful. If you're looking for a really good dystopian novel that is actually rather realistic, as it is very obvious that it takes place in present, with such beautiful and captivating stories that intertwine together, then this is your book. I was immediately engrossed on the first page and knew that I was going to love this book. The middle got a little rocky and I began to worry that Mandel was faltering but she quickly rebounded and then exceeded into something that took my breath away. While this book is ~nearly~ perfect on the realistic side of things, parts of it are truly questionable and seemed a little rushed. A character miraculously safe in an airport full of hundreds of people after countless flights were forced to land there from all over the globe? This section of the story is truly my only critique and it would be completely acceptable if the rest of the novel was borderline unrealistic-- it just wasn't. Reader, you won't regret reading this book and, even if you don't have a completely irrational fear of global pandemics, you won't forget this story or these characters.

This book is honestly insane in so many perfect and questionable ways. Questionable because I'm questioning myself if I should actually like this book...? This was my first introduction into Capote and what I found in these pages is just a wild ride of questions and insanity. A campy, surreal, sort of supernatural, Southern Gothic, coming of age novel that has a sad, compulsively lying boy, drag queens, crazy aunts, disabled fathers, and so much more.

What a ride this was! I've honestly been waiting for a book to come around where I felt so instantly drawn to main character because I truly saw myself. Reading this book really, really brought me back to my 16 year old age and finding that first love. We can all think back on that and remember that nothing every quite felt like that again-- nothing will be more special, regardless of how it ended (if it did). It was even more amazing to see a YA book accomplish complete realistic circumstances at realistic times. This is a story of not only James coming to peace with himself, his sexuality, and his future, but also a story of his entire circle of friends and family coming to peace with James. Not a day goes by where I don't think about basically all the books I've ever read (not that it's been a whole, whole lot) but this is one I will think about and always find myself smiling.

With the addicting writing style that so deeply and almost exclusively represents Elio’s thoughts, the Italian Riviera setting that really warms you to the core, and the most powerful and gut-punching romance I have ever encountered in literature, Andre Aciman created  the perfect summer read. It is THE gay novel I have been waiting for. One that holds the intensity of a YA novel but with a prose so beautifully constructed you won’t feel guilty for reading it and portrays all aspects of an all consuming obsession. I simply cannot recommend this book enough.

This is one of those books that I noticed is blowing up so I figured I'd move this towards the top of the reading list and I wasn't disappointed. This is the first magic-themed book I've read that I couldn't connect to Harry Potter in any way (which is truly impressive because fantasy has really changed with HP, in my opinion). This is a dark story about a magician who can travel between different worlds by the power of blood. Kell is tricked and given a mysterious package that turns out to be a huge threat to all three travel-able London's and it seems to have come directly from the (presumably) destroyed Black London.

The plot is a little obvious at some points but there are some others were you sit straight up out of shock. I have touched very little Sci-Fi and this is an excellent start if you're on that same boat.

It's not too often that I read nearly an entire novel in one day.

There is a reason Tartt won the Pulitzer and that is because she is truly gifted author. This book is more than just a beautiful novel. It is a book to understand the philosophy of life, understand the beauty of art (life in art/ art in life— these are often different!), and a literary understanding of a painting and it’s meaning and all of this is through one Dickensian, bildungsroman, gorgeous, and perfect (I can keep the adjectives going but I’ll stop here) novel.

To describe this book would take me a lot more thought than just writing a quick blog review. Isherwood's style of writing, imagery, and character development is indescribable. You really feel George's grieving, his anger, and his happiness. It's incredibly relateable in the sense that what George is feeling, you're feeling it for the exact same reasons. If you've seen the movie and decided 'oh, I just don't need to read that,' YOU'RE WRONG! You do need to read this! They are rather different. If you've read this book and haven't seen the movie, YOU'RE ALSO WRONG! The movie is fantastic! Anyway, this entire novel is just a masterpiece. Pick it up and read it.

I was thoroughly amazed by how good this book was. I was SO captivated by Ari's teen-age boy angst throughout this entire novel-- to further that thought-- the way Saenz captured a gay, angsty, teenage boy during the Reagan era. It's a wonderful roller coaster of a ride and I wasn't disappointed and I don't think you will be either.
